Augmented Food

Erika Marthins talk aims to explore and question the intersection of food and technology.

In her work she explore the concept of augmented food and the sensory spectacular which challenges our perception of food. She investigates the two aspects of food – the nourishment which is essential for maintenance of life, and the experience of food — the social aspect as well as the joy of eating. Augmented food brings a new dimension into a dish by creating a more personalised experience, and changing how we eat and consume food. It also explores our relationship with technology by blurring the lines between food and technology. What if we could make it part of us, what if we could eat technology?

Erika Marthins is a designer seeking to reconsider our relationship with new technology. She is particularly interested in creating bridges between distinct areas like for example food and cutting edge technology, memories and social networks.

Her recent work Déguster l’augmenté went viral with over 2 million views when the video was published with headlines like «Erika Marthins fuses food with tech to create a futuristic noshing experience.» by WIRED.

Her work speculates on the future and aims to expand the boundaries of possibilities by exploring new solutions for future problems. Erika has exhibited at museums, festivals, institutes across the world such as Google, Vitra Design Museum, Milan Design Week & Space10 and has spoken at Singularity University, IDEO, swissnex San Francisco. Her great passion for design and innovation is what inspires her to think about our relationship with technology in the world of tomorrow.
