reconFIGURE
«reconFIGURE» is a real-time installation that explores how computational machines reimagine the diversity of human bodies. Using a camera, visitors’ frontal images are captured and, through machine learning processes, transformed within seconds from a 2D representation into an animated 3D avatar.
These digital doppelgängers emerge in a projection on the wall, immersed in an unsettling soundscape. Gradually, they begin to move like strange creatures in an aquarium, shaken by invisible forces, as if they were rag dolls.
As visitors come face to face with their reanimated versions on the screen, they witness the mutations generated by algorithmic processing. Through this bodily transformation—driven by artificial intelligence, which is increasingly opaque and inscrutable—«reconFIGURE» questions how we negotiate truth between our own image and its reinterpretation by machines.
