Profiling the Keiken's latest video game production - «Morphogenic Angels: Chapter 1» - Tanya Cruz will articulate Keiken’s highly collaborative and symbiotic production team that shifts based on the needs of their creative direction. «Morphogenic Angels» is part of Keiken’s worldbuilding practice and is an ongoing and ever-evolving project presented primarily as a videogame. In 2022 Keiken participated in C/O Berlin’s incubator programme, where they first developed the prototype for their new game, «Morphogenic Angels». The game is a single play adventure where you play as Yaxu who needs to remember who they are by accessing previous iterations of their consciousness or genetic evolution. Along the way you encounter Anamt’u’ul who aids this journey of self-reflection. «Morphogenic Angels» then further progressed development with support from Somerset House through the DCMS and Arts Council through the Culture Recovery Fund. Somerset House commissioned a film of the demo of the game in 2023 that expanded on the game's tracking system and first-person perspectives. Later in 2023 HAU Hebbel am Ufer commissioned and co-produced Chapter 1. The HAU3 presentation in May 2023 marked a premiere of the playable game for public audiences. More recently the game was localised into Japanese, French and Dutch as it was presented with a gallery context. In the future, Morphogenic Angels will expand into additional chapters and UX context.
